Archibald Gardner (1815-1902) was born in Kilsyth, Scotland, and emigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1822. He started a grist mill and saw mill in Alvinston, Ontario, but left Canada in 1846 after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and other Mormons fleeing Canada met with American Mormons at Winter Quarters, Nebraska, and arrived in Salt Lake City in 1847. Duncan Livingston was born in 1822 in Aldbourgh, Elgin, Ontario, Canada, to Neil Livingston and Janet McNair. He married Mary McFarlane in April 1846. They had eight children: Margaret, Sarah, Neil, Flora, Janet, Mary, Donald, and Duncan (junior). Duncan Livingston passed away on December 13, 1864, in Mosa, Middlesex, Ontario, and is buried in Lambton, Ontario, in the Kilmartin Cemetery.
